What has been the most rewarding moment during your time on the school board so far?

There have been many rewarding times during my tenure on the board. Being elected as president of the board several times by my peers has been one of the highlights. I respect my fellow board members so much for their love of our system and hearts for our students. Their confidence in my leadership touches me greatly. Completing construction of the cafeteria for our upper and lower students is another highlight. It is very beautiful, functional, and something for which the whole community can be proud.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with students, staff, or the community?

I very much love going to ballgames and watching the students play. I also enjoy going to various other activities at the schools. Graduations are always great because you get to experience seeing students be rewarded for all of their hard work. One huge highlight is being able to interact with students that are chosen to come to our meetings to say the pledge with us. They are always so serious and well behaved. They give us a direct visual on why we do what we do! I also enjoy giving quarterly reports about our system to our local town council members and mayor. They are always very attentive and love hearing about how our schools are doing.

What is one priority you’re especially passionate about right now?

My biggest priorities now are using the tax dollars entrusted to my district to build new infrastructure for our community that they can be proud of and will last for generations.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Some may or may not know that I am a former principal and spent my 30-year career in this parish. I was first recruited to this parish as a teacher and coach by principal Janice Bernard. I grew to love this parish teaching and coaching some awesome students at Albany Middle school. I loved it so much I built a house here and raised my family here. I presently have my first grandchild going to school here also.

How can educators and community members best partner with the school board?

Communication is always the key to effective partnerships. If you have a question, ask! We will always try our best to give you a thorough, honest answer about how the system works.

What leadership value guides you when making difficult decisions?

First and foremost is my relationship with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Any leadership abilities I may have first comes through Him and is guided through prayer as to what is best for our children. I try to be fair minded and listen to all sides carefully before making tough decisions.
